A Century of Life, Love and Happiness!
On January 21, 2023, Carrousel Audrey Hoyle Cooper-Stanton along with family members and friends celebrated
her mothers’ (Mrs. Josephine Hoyle) 100th year birthday in grand stye. Mrs. Hoyle was born in Rayne LA, January
21, 1923 and moved to Chicago at the age of seventeen (17). A delicious plated lunch that included passed Hors
D. Oeuvres and a champagne toast for nearly 200 was held at the Hilton Chicago/Oak Lawn. Relatives and friends
came from near and far. The program included an introduction of special guest, a brief bio and remarks from
family and friends. For over sixty (60) years, Mrs. Hoyle and her husband, Hugh (deceased) were residents and
business owners in the West Woodlawn Community where they raised Carrousel Audrey and her four (4) siblings.
As a matter of fact, Josephine and Hugh helped raise and nurture several grandchildren, as well as, many nieces,
nephews, cousins, and neighbors in their home. One of the highlights of the birthday party for Josephine was having
a congratulatory letter from the Governor of Illinois read and presented to her in person from the Lt. Governor of
Illinois Mrs. Juliana Stratton. Another highlight of the party was having the local CBS News Chanel come out to the
cover the birthday celebration and aired a segment on the afternoon news. When asked by the news team if she
has any advice for longevity, Josephine replied, “be good to yourself and others.”
