Since their formation, the Pipes and Drums have honored the memory of Department members killed in the
line of duty by performing at their funeral services. From the Massachusetts State House, to Washington D.C.
the band has marched in parades, played for memorial and awards ceremonies, performed at Department
events, played for charities, and represented the Massachusetts State Police with pride. The band has played
at Inaugurations and members have played at the funerals of Congressmen and Governors. In 2014 the band
performed at Fenway Park for the memorial of the Boston Marathon bombing, a nationally televised event.

This year the Massachusetts State Police Pipes and Drums were invited to Annapolis Maryland, home to the
United States Naval Academy. They attended the Annapolis St. Patrick's Day events and were honored to
open the ceremonies at the Loews Annapolis Hotel. They performed to raise money for wounded veterans
through the Warrior Project, an all volunteer organization where 100% of the proceeds goes directly to the
veterans. The band marched in the Annapolis St. Patrick's day parade in an honor position, leading wounded
veterans, and played at numerous establishments in Annapolis. Although the band members are all
volunteers, the band is often supported through the department on occasions like this and trips to the Fallen
Officer Memorial in Washington DC by authorization through the department.

Individuals seeking to contact the band for performances, or solo pipers, are requested to contact the band
manager, Trooper Matthew Guarino at the Office of Media Relations, or the band president, Lieutenant
William Nee at Staff Inspections. Official requests for the band to perform through the Department are
directed to the office of Lieutenant Colonel Edward Amodeo, Division of Field Services.

The band is in need of new bagpipers and anyone interested in learning to play the bagpipes should contact
Trooper Matthew Guarino at media relations. A new bagpiper class is being planned for January. For those
interested, it should be noted that practice is weekly, on Thursday, at GHQ in the cafeteria. Individual lessons
for beginning bagpipers will be arranged separately from the band practices through Mr. Iain Massie.
