Hoovering:
Think of a vacuum (The word stems from the Hoover Vacuum Cleaner) In terms of a narcissist behavior this tactic is used in an effort to suck back a discarded mate into a toxic relationship by saying and doing things that they know are irresistible to them and feed into the insecurities that the narcissist has created in its victim.
Narcissistic Personality Disorder Terminology
Humility:
Having a modest view of ones importance. Freedom of pride and arrogance. Antonym to Narcissism.
Hyper Vigilance
This is a coping mechanism where the victim goes into hyper drive problem solving and becomes extremely defensive, always on guard emotionally to avoid being repeatedly victimized. It is one of the symptoms of PTSD (Post Traumatic Stress Syndrome Disease)
Idealizations
Putting on a pedestal, not recognizing or acknowledging any imperfections in others. Categorizing in black and white. Either they are devalued or idealized.
Indifference:
This is lack of interest, concern or empathy. The opposite of love.
Intermittent Reinforcement:
Cruel callous treatment mixed in with random bursts of affection. Alternating rewards with punishment. This behavior engenders hope, false beliefs, plausibility and self doubt.

Learned Helplessness:
A conditioned response to an uncontrollable circumstance where one stops making efforts to change their predicament and becomes helpless.
