Be Aware of the Web Browser Update Scam

Be cautious if you receive any online pop-up urging you to update your browser or any software.
It is likely an update scam. These scams often include a link to update your browser, which tricks

you into downloading malware. Some examples of the message are below:

Most browser updates are done automatically by the City of Post Falls IT staff. If you
get any messages to update your internet browser, the safest option is to close the

pop-up window and put in a help desk request. You may do so here. If you want to
continue working, you may check the status of your web browser by following the
instructions linked below. Remember, you should never use a link from a browser pop-
up to update your browser. Instead, close any window with a potentially malicious pop-

up and follow these steps to check the status of, or update your browser:

Follow the step-by-step guide for Edge, Chrome, and Mozilla Firefox here.

If you happen to click any update links by mistake, or need assistance
making sure your software is up to date, you may always put in a help
desk ticket. Email the help desk.
