“  ■ Good-bye, my love,'  I sakl  aloud ;
                                             I kept my smile* 1 did not cry -f
                                           1 Good-bye, my own,’ and he was gone,
                                             And who was left so lone as 11

                                         *• It waa so long, so very long,

                                             I  kept myself  so  calm  and  still;
                                           The days went on, the time was gone,
                                             I lost my hope and I fell til.

                                         “ I could not rest, I could not sleep,

                                             I hid mjBClf  from  every  eye ;
                                           And wearing care to dumb despair
                                             Was changed, and yet I did not cry.

                                         " My goodman came up the street,
                                             And from the street he called to m e:
                                           1 Look out, my dear, for I am here,
                                             And safe returned to comfort thee.'

                                           My tears fell down like Summer rain,
                                             I could not rise to ope the door,
                                           Though oncc again, so firm and plain,
                                             1 heard his step upon the floor.

                                         111 was so glad, so very glad,
                                             I had to cry and so did hej
                                           But wars are o’er, and now no more
                                             My good man goes away from me.”
