When the afternoon came, she was
really too tired to go for the violets, but
she felt it would not do to neglect so
unusual a chance of giving pleasure to
Mr* Bolander,
Mrs. Bagley, upon being asked for
her permission, declared that, as she was
not good for much of anything at home,
she might as well go, and Peggy took
advantage of the permission without
stopping to think of the unkindness of
her words.
When she reached the spot where the
violets grew, she was so tired, and every
thing seemed so miserable, that she
would have liked for once to have a
good c ry ; but she winked away the
tears, trying to think of something
pleasant, and the sagest philosopher
could not have counselled a wiser
course.
