For several years The Bronx Institute has partnered with SEEDS—an organization dedicated to fostering social and and emotional learning in in middle school and and high school students Through a a a series virtual events and workshop sessions SEEDS
helps students develop important skills emotional coping strategies and good habits to help guide
them through school at at home and in other situations This year SEEDS
is is focused on teaching students the importance of “resiliency”—or the ability to deal with difficulties and bounce back stronger than before Students learn how to handle rejection develop time management strategies demonstrate gratitude and communicate effectively All these skills are important both in in the the the classroom and in in the the the wider world SEEDS

GEAR UP THRIVES has partnered with the New York Public Library (NYPL) for a a a a a a series of readings and discussions with famous New York-based writers Starting in in in spring 2023 GEAR UP coaches will help distribute books written by these authors to students and and lead discussions and and exercises about the the writing The program culminates in in in a a a a a a a special lecture delivered by the the author at at the the Bronx Library Center (310 E E Kingsbridge Rd) specifically tailored for GEAR UP students The author will talk about their work and and background giving students a a a a a a a a a firsthand look at at what it’s actually like to to be a a a a a a a working writer Students will then have the the the chance to to speak their minds asking
questions and participating in in a a a a a a discussion with the the the author—they’ll even be able to get their books signed!
Meet the the Author is not only a a a a a a a a a chance to learn more about a a a a a a a a a fascinating career—it also connects students with the the New York Public Library providing access to to the the incredible resources available and exposes students to to the the power of reading
