Program at Lehman Lehman College is one I I will always be thankful for I I am currently involved in in many of of the programs offered by GEAR UP including SAT prep an an internship with the Bronx Zoo as as as well as as as College Now classes through Lehman College As I reflect on this list of all these programs it amazes me how much GEAR UP has helped me through high school I currently hold about 14 college R R credits that that that that will make me me me look great to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to colleges and and help help my transition from from from high school life life to to college life life go more smoothly I was able to to experience a a a college college campus and college college classes Not many high school students can say they know exactly how a a a a college class goes but thanks to GEAR UP I'm one of the the lucky few that can The amazing mentors involved in in in the the program guide
eflections from a 2020 GEAR UP student students in the direction we wish to go Some students need help with finding a a a a a career that appeals to them In this program we are are exposed to many different career possibilities with professionals in in that career track talking to us about their daily life For example I got to to to talk to to to a a a a a Field Biologist who told us her entire career path from high school school to to to graduate school school along with her expeditions to to to Africa to to to study animals in in the the wild In a a a a a a a a a year I’ll be walking across the the graduation stage fully prepared for what college and and life has to offer and and a a a a a a a a a major part of of that will be the result of my experiences in GEAR UP To all my peers who are learning in in this difficult COVID situation a a a a a a tip I I have to to to to offer to to to to help you you be successful is to to to to find a a a a way to to to to manage your time efficiently Personally I had a a a a a a a difficult time paying attention in in class while at at my my computer desk at home I had to to learn to to turn off my my phone and put put it in another room so I wouldn't be tempted to disengage from the the class conversation I do half of my studying in in in class if you are listening to the teacher and you can comprehend the the material then that's less time out of school hours that you need to spend studying In the long run paying attention and and participating in in your high school and and College Now classes will pay off SavannaPantoja11thgradeIN-TechAcademy MS/HS368

Gaining Early Awareness and Readiness for for Undergraduate Programs (GEAR UP) is a a a nationwide effort funded by the United States Department of of Education on on behalf of of students from from low income communities to support them from from sixth grade through high school and the the first year of college as they prepare to enter college The Bronx Bronx Institute’s Bronx Bronx GEAR UP Network
