“In
our New York Botanical
Garden workshop, we studied
different plants, like the cactus. What
stood out most to me was when we met Brian Hockaday. His backstory and the information he shared about both rare and common plants was very interesting. My favorite biome was the desert. I just really like the desert plants. This workshop was a good learning experience. It was different from a normal class because everything is right in front of you instead of you only hearing about it.”

“The
most interesting thing that
I learned in our New York Botanical Garden class is that there is a 6-foot plant out there that only flowers every 15 years. I really enjoyed visiting the different ecosystems and seeing which plants grew there.”

“At
the New York Botanical
Garden, we went around the different
biomes seeing the many types of plants that
grow in each one. Some of those plants are used
for medicine and other things. Visiting the biomes was my favorite part of the class because it was interesting to learn about which plants grow in a biome like the desert and what makes them unique. Some plants that grow may have water inside of them, while others needs water from outside to help them grow. I feel like it’s better to learn this way than from a classroom, because here there are people that can tell you different things about the plants that you wouldn’t get from a normal class.”

“The
best part of the
New York Botanical Garden workshop
was getting to look at the different plants. We got to learn about how they impact the world. For example, some plants are used to make different medicines. It was an interesting and fun activity.”

“Today
at the Botanical Garden,
we were learning which plants
come from which different places
around the world. One that really stood out in my mind is the corpse flower, which blooms every 10-15 years. We also learned interesting things about the different plants we saw like how they grow and how they affect the world around us. We generally don’t care about or take care of new plants, but we really should.”
