Cancer-Fighting Funds
The mission of the Harold & Carole Pump Foundation is to raise funds for the treatment and cure of cancer. By engaging the community, sports leaders, and those touched by this disease, financial support is given to procure cancer-fighting technology and develop cancer treatments, programs and services.
• Free Cancer Screenings: Thanks to the generosity of the Harold & Carole Pump Foundation, the hospital hosted 12 FREE “Reaching Out” health fairs where free breast screening exams were provided to 615 people who are uninsured or under-insured.
• Education: The Outreach Program’s staff attended 74 community events and educated 8,655 people on cancer awareness in English and Spanish.
• Family Plan Fund: This plan assists patients and their families with payment for services, equipment needs, home health care, and transportation to and from the Leavey Cancer Center. In FY19, this
program provided over 206 hours of in-home care for patients.
In addition, a $10,000 grant from the Pfizer Healthcare Foundation
provided rides for nearly 500 patients, many of whom are seniors who no longer drive and are exhausted after treatment.

BATTLING CANCER
“I would like to express my sincere gratefulness for this wonderful service. To be able to have my mammogram in this facility and at no cost is a blessing. When you have a family history of breast cancer having a mammogram is stressful, but knowing that I have a place to be taken care of brings relief ”
– Garcia S., Grateful Patient
“As an elderly cancer patient being treated here, I am forever indebted. And I am certain that many other patients share my gratitude.” – Elizabeth, Grateful Patient

Both programs offer cooking demonstrations, stress management techniques, grocery store tours, group exercise, and health screenings to help participants enjoy the benefits of
a healthier, more energetic lifestyle. This grant was for the initial phase of the program and the California Department of Public Health will continue funding in FY 2020.
