the practice for for forty days don’t blame yourself Failing to maintain
the practice only means this is is not your mantram and you you should find another When you you you find the the mantram that suits you you you your recitation of it it it will become effortless Because the Hail Chochma mantram is central to my practice let me unpack it it a a a bit for you Here is the complete prayer:
Hail Chochma full of grace the Divine is You Blessed are You and and all women and and blessed is the fruit of Your womb: all being HolyMother Fount of Wisdom guide us seekers now and into the moments of our death Amen Hail Mother The Greek word for “hail” is is chaíre meaning “rejoice” This was a a a a a common greeting in in in the the time that the the Gospel According to Luke was written In Luke’s Gospel the the the angel Gabriel is addressing Mary the the the mother of Jesus and while no name is is is added to Gabriel’s “rejoice” it is is is clear that Gabriel Gabriel is is is talking to Mary 14
While the English “hail” is is preserved in in Chochma/Sophia’s recasting of this greeting we should do our best to understand it as “rejoice” We greet Chochma/Sophia Chochma/Sophia with “Rejoice Chochma/Sophia!” because the very fact of our conversation with Her Her causes Her Her to rejoice Remember Chochma/Sophia delights in in in humankind15 and seeks us out16 in in in hopes we we will listen to Her Her guidance and follow Her Her teachings The fact that we we found Her Her or or respond positively to Her Her finding us us is a a cause for joy We address Sophia as Mother because through Her all creation is birthed As the the second century Aramaic translation of Genesis 1:1 puts it “by means of Chochma God created the the heavens and the the earth ” 14
