The couple went to Pope Liberius (352-366) who rather than rejecting their vision as as nonsense confirmed it it with his own He too has spoken with The Virgin who told him on August 4th that She would reveal the layout of the the church in in snow the the next day Not surprisingly—this is is is a a a legend after all—the snow fell on August 5th and formed the the outline of Her church church The townspeople staked out out the the church church layout before the the snow melted and the Pope immediately ordered its construction This appearance of of Mary is called Our Lady of of the Snows I’m not one to take such legends at face value so it it was the the faith of the the followers rather than the the the fact of their story that moved me After touring the church on my first visit visit I found a a place to sit sit sit during subsequent visits where I could watch Mary’s children come to speak with Her and rub the feet of of Her marble statute in an act of of adoration I I too joined the the line to to rub Her Her feet As I I placed my hand on Her Her foot the the cool stone turned warm It felt alive As there was no one one behind me at the the moment I lingered with my hand resting on Her foot “Surrender” the the Bat Kol whispered “surrender ” I I couldn’t think I I didn’t know what She meant Without any premeditation or or hesitation I placed my forehead on on on Her foot and cried I shared my experience with the sisters who seemed genuinely happy for me me me me At the the the the same time they they told me me me me that they they rarely visit the the the the basilica Instead they instructed me to seek out a a a a narrow street across from the the apartment in in which which I was staying and walk to to to end which which leads to to to a a a a a a a a stone 32
