 Excavation
Jesus later says in Matthew that “everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock. 25 The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the rock. 26 But everyone who hears these words of mine and does not put them into practice is like a foolish man who built his house on sand. 27 The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell with a great crash”. (NIV). I often imagine Jesus in an excavator wearing the whole shebang when he says these words: steel toe boots, Wrangler utility pants, a warm brown Carhartt jacket, and a classic yellow hard hat. Unlike the “nice guy” some people paint him out to be, this Jesus is ready to work up a sweat.
I’m still stumbling along the path I believe Jesus has put me on; but I am slowly coming to the realization that my worth doesn’t have to be tied to what I do in my 9-5. I’m starting to realize that I’ve had a name worth more than an hourly wage, and an unwavering amount of love waiting to be accepted from the Father. It’s no longer about my self efforts but allowing myself to live my life through Him. His outstretched hands reach my heart when I look at the cross and see my new name as “Redeemed” rather than “Works”. I am on time and not behind. I am my Father’s son.
