pink 3DS you had decorated with two butterfly stickers. Now, the DS games you found at Kmart are covered in dust just like the movies (they are now relics of the past that you only think of when you see them). You must have gradually stopped playing on your 3DS as often as when you got an Xbox 360 for Christmas one year, but the difference here is that once in a while, you do still open your 3DS to play a game or two. You relive the memories of playing Mario Party and Mario Kart on the bus with your nephews, but playing them alone or with different people is never as memorable. You guess that is what happens when the memories of games or movies become better than the actual thing.
Although, one thing that will never lose its brilliance is the memory of your dad breaking a light meant to be put along a pathway in the gardening section of Kmart. It was an accident, of course, but his genuine surprise at the thin plastic braking and his hurried movement to set the light back and walk out of the section as you both giggled never fails to make you smile. Your dad still mentions it from time to time when something reminds him of that moment.
Your mom also went to Kmart to buy you the occasional gift. You mostly remember the Hot Wheels cars and how, when you amassed enough, you would line them up on your dad as he lay on the couch. Honestly, he probably fell asleep during this interaction, but it didn’t hurt your enjoyment of the moment. These Hot Wheels are literally missing relics of the past, as you cannot remember where they went. Perhaps your dad moved them in the room downstairs where various stuff is stored; that way they will still be there for a future version of you to find and reminisce on.
