Nonetheless, we are still looking for a singer who is suited to our music and has the same dedication to success that we share. In the meantime, we’re playing shows all across the region to try and attract a singer. We’ve played a few shows in Plattsburgh and Burlington so far, and have shows scheduled in Albany and Troy NY, and another pair of shows scheduled for Boston MA and Manchester NH.
In terms of our songwriting process, we tend to experiment with various textures and dynamics. “After Hours” opens with an arpeggio on bass, followed by a heavy riff using bass chords, both of which are techniques not usually seen on bass. Some of our songs also use “exotic” minor keys, such as our song “Ferrix” which uses the Phrygian mode, and our song “The Tunnel” which uses 3 minor keys: the natural minor, harmonic minor, and the phrygian mode.
When we go to write songs, we generally start with a certain energy in mind, or a riff our bassist has had in mind for a while. We then build off that and decide what direction we want the song to go in. Most of our songs are composed within a day or two, but are then tweaked as we play them live over and over again, and decide what sounds best.
