Released under musician pseudonym “DEAR THUNDERSTORM” and recorded with vintage air organ and melodica and various synthesizers and noises.
“Orphaned” is a song about an air organ being left to die. I made it at the end of spring break in my basement, with a Snowball microphone fed directly into audacity. The sounds recorded are a combination of synthesizers, analog keyboards, field recordings, melodica, and a 1960’s Italian air organ I acquired for free on Facebook marketplace 5 blocks from my house. I was working on this track all day using melodica, analog keyboard, and a synthesizer, when suddenly, around nightfall, my buddy Gavin texted me with a Facebook marketplace link to a free air organ near my house. I had been yearning all day for some impossible sublime sound, and as fate had it, there was the air organ, left to die. We rushed to the address and found it on the side of the road in a snowbank, soaked in water and subject to who knows what weather, but it miraculously still turned on and worked after me and my brother hauled it home in the car. I called the song “Orphaned” after the organ in honor of its near-death experience on the side of the road. Anyway, all my songs are about thunderstorms to one degree or another and this song is yet another prime example. The chip-tune synths and piano fragments that come in at the end represent a moment of levity, the storm passing, if you will.
