Scenario 1:

Hotel

This scenario is inspired by Magdas Hotel
in Vienna, a hotel and temporary refugee

accommodation. It functions as a social
business where refugees can start their
working career, learning the language as
they go. Hotel Magdas itself was inspired
by Grandhotel Cosmopolis, also a tempo-
rary refugee accommodation as well as
hotel, combined with open workspaces,
art studios and public services.

In this booklet’s scenario, the staff (docu-
mented newcomers) is also housed in the
hotel, and spaces are created where infor-
mal exchange can happen between both
staff - during their free time - and guests.
The bar of the hotel is also open for in-
habitants of the neighborhood and other
visitors who happen to be in the area.

Grandhotel Cosmopolis in Augsburg, Germany,
looked for ways “in which extremely diverse
groups can live together peacefully in a relati-
vely densely populated space”
