Borderlands
Housing cooperative and
community centre
Apart from the open and welco-
ming character of its inhabitants,
the building itself and the entrance
to the garden communicate wel-
comeness. No cameras, no barbed
wire, no wall to separate the garden
from the street. Benches in front
of the door invite people to sit and
exchange with others or enjoy the
coming-and-going of people who
come to the plot for a wide variety
of reasons. In an ideal situation, the
walls of USquare would also allow
for a visual connection between the
premises and the street. As this sce-
nario includes activities and hou-
sing for undocumented migrants, it
becomes inclusive for documented
migrants as well.
