               EEX3510-Electrotechniques - TMA 2 - 2017/2018

After completing this assignment, you should be able to:
 Calculate currents and voltages in an AC circuit.
 Draw a phasor diagram for an AC circuit.
 perform power calculations for an AC circuit
 Describe resonance in an AC circuit

Pls bring the completed TMA with you to LAB 2 on the due date.

                                     R L
               Q1

                                                                     Where R = 22 Ω, L = 3.3 mH,

                                           CP CS = 1 µF, CP = 1.5 µF

                                 CS
                                            e
                                          ~

The amplitude provided by the source is e = 3.4 sin 10000t V.

                       (i) Calculate the currents through all elements of the circuit.

(ii) Draw the phasor diagram for the circuit. (Include all currents and voltages!)

                       (iii) Calculate a) active power
                                            b) reactive power
                                            c) apparent power
                                            d) power factor for the circuit.

Q2 Now the source frequency of the circuit of the above figure is set to the circuit’s resonance
                       frequency.

                       (i) Calculate the resonance angular frequency ωo and the resonance frequency fo for the
                          circuit.

                       Now for this frequency:

(ii) Calculate the currents through all elements of the circuit.

(iii) Draw the phasor diagram for the circuit. (Include all currents and voltages)

(iv) Calculate the power factor for the circuit.
