nother free from travel day and
Awe decide to go on a cruise on
the “Coorong” . The Kurangk
(Coorong) is the traditional lands of
the local Ngarrindjeri people,
holding important spiritual and
cultural significance. There are a
myriad of archaeological sites that
span many thousands of years, some
of which we visited during our tours.
We cruised downstream from the
port of Goolwa along the historic
wharf & towards the Goolwa
Barrage. We traversed the lock
chamber, down to sea level and
spot a few lazy fur-seals lounging
about. We then meandered along
the waterways of the Coorong,
following the last kilometres of
the mighty Murray River to the
Murray Mouth and its opening to
the Southern Ocean.
The Coorong National Park is a
special place of spectacular
beauty. With high sand dune
systems fronting the Southern
Ocean and a long, narrow
wetland complex connecting the
lower Murray River and Lakes
system. It has international
significance as a migratory wader
& waterbird refuge, stretching
nearly 150 kms from the Murray
Mouth.
