FROM OUR MINI-EXPLORERS
This month we have been focusing on emotions & language expression. Its important for our toddlers to understand how they feel and how to express this, ideally with language. And for educators, it is about developing these skills with the children so we all have enjoyable days and grow together even at different stages of development.
Every opportunity is one for learning! Sharing meals, transition from our playgrounds to classrooms, between different activities, washing hands, toileting and anything else!
At DMW we ensure our children are encouraged to use their words, say ‘stop’ if a child is in their space or displaying an undesired behaviour, and to count if we are feeling upset or angry. We are reading lots of stories about feelings and encourage parents to do the same at home.
Extending on Language: At 2 years of age, a child should begin to use 2 to 3 words in a sentence and use up to 50 words. By the age of 2.5 years, children should be saying approximately 200 words with strangers being able to understand them 75% of the time. We are continuing to focus on speech development in a range of experiences and activities in our room this month!
