PIONEERS
The children's love of the outdoors has been highly reflected in our environments and the children's discussions; with many of the Pioneers participating in bike rides, nature walks and outdoor activities we designed a camping area for the children to engage in a variety of dramatic play opportunities. Common themes within this area included having a picnic or BBQ as well as camping under the stars, we even made our own real s'mores!
Phonics
- Letter recognition (Upper and Lower case)
- Articulation of single and duel sounds
- Learning how to spell, read and recognise first and last name in print
Group time
As part of our morning routine our Pioneers begin each day by completing the ‘All About Today Calendar’; here the children learn about consecutive counting as they identify the date, learn to understand sequencing and order of operation as they sing and learn the days of the week (sung using the tune of the Addams Family) We also use their observational skills to determine what type of weather it is each day. A big interest from the children has been learning the months of the year, as they have been learning about the different types of seasons and what occurs in these months.
The learning about seasons has transpired throughout the children’s learning, together they have viewed short educational clips which discuss the changes in each season using examples from the environment and animals. The children have transferred their acquired learning of seasons within their creative projects, making collages and creating beautiful patterns using natural materials that symbolise the changing of the seasons.
What you'll see in March:
Throughout the month of March we will be celebrating children's creativity and engagement in creative arts, with many of our Pioneers visiting aquariums and the beach over the summer holidays we will be exploring the theme 'Under the Sea' with the children. Where the children will take a deep dive into the world of the oceanic life, we cannot wait to share more with you!
