Russian literature has a long and rich tradition. However, it wasn’t until the
nineteenth century that the works of Russian writers became known internationally.
As romanticism swept through Europe, it also swept through Russia. Russian writers
of this era are acknowledged for using more realistic and common themes in their
stories. Many writers delved deep into the height of human suffering in Russia
at that time. Russia has also produced some of the greatest novelists in world
literature , and many books have been translated into several languages.
