Reading Skill: Story Elements The elements of a story include the characters, the setting, the point of view,
the conflict (the problem), and the plot (the beginning, the middle, and the
end). The characters are the people or sometimes even the animals in the story.
The setting is where and when the story takes place. The point of view is who
is telling the story. The conflict (the problem) is a struggle between two people
or things. And the plot is a series of events having a beginning, a middle, and
an end.
