MAKE A PINHOLE CAMERA
myNotes
What You Need:
clean potato chip scissors tape
tube with a thumbtack aluminum foil
plastic lid wax paper
STEP Ask an adult to cut 2 inches (5 centimeters) off the
1
bottom of the tube. Then use a thumbtack to make
a tiny hole in the center of the bottom of this short
piece. This is like the pupil of your eye. It is a little
hole to let in light.
STEP The plastic lid at the other end of the tube will be
2
like your retina. This is the part the image will hit.
Put a piece of wax paper over the lid. Then put
the lid onto the short piece of tube. Put the longer
plastic lid
piece back on top and tape these pieces together.
STEP To keep light out of the tube, wrap a piece of
3
aluminum foil twice around the tube and attach
it using tape.
STEP Outside on a sunny day, close one eye and
4
hold the open end of the tube to your
other eye. Do not look directly at the sun!
Keep the inside dark by holding your hands
around the end of the tube by your eye.
STEP You should see a picture of the object you are
5
looking at on the lid. It will be upside down.
This is what your retina sees before your brain
turns images the right way up!
