Evidence Write a Retelling
PROMPT
In The Year of the Rat, you read about Pacy’s dream to become an author.
The story is written in first person with Pacy telling her own story.
Imagine how The Year of the Rat would be different if someone other than Pacy
were telling it. Pretend that you are one of the characters in The Year of the Rat.
Write a retelling of an event as if you were telling the story instead of Pacy.
Picture the event in your mind. How might the character’s view of events be
different from Pacy’s? How will it be the same? Don’t forget to use some of the
Critical Vocabulary words in your writing.
