When they have done everything they can to lower the

avalanche risk, Rice and his partner head back to the patrol

hut. “The first skiers and snowboarders are making their

way up the mountain. We’ll be around all day, taking care

of business. We help people who have accidents on the

slopes. We want everyone to be safe while enjoying the

outdoors. That’s our job.”
