                                                                    Japan, on September 6, 2007, as
                                                                    Typhoon Fitow advanced toward Japan’s
                                                                    main island of Honshu. These waves
                                                                    were part of Fitow’s storm surge.


















































                                What Does “Hurricane” Mean?
                                The term hurricane comes from “Huracan,” the god of evil, named
                                by an ancient Central American Indian group. Spanish colonists later
                                changed the spelling to “hurricane.”
