Lofentse needs an ideal teacher who has a strong and deep conceptual

understanding of his/her subject matter, who never shies away from her

responsibilities. An ideal teacher capable of analysing and diagnosing learners

understanding and adapts as required.

An ideal teacher who creates a safe and positive place/ non-discriminatory

environment where effective teaching and learning can occur. A teacher who uses

a variety of learning resources in the form of textbooks, computers and science

laboratories. An ideal teacher who encourages learners to participate and engage
in the learning activities. She/he creates an environment where learners are

involved and responsible for their own learning while she facilitates.

This is because young new teachers are trying to revolutionize the school by using

new, fun and innovative methodologies and pedagogies, however their efforts are

not embraced by experienced teachers, who still insist on traditional teaching and

learning roles.
