About the Walking Gun
A Life Behind the Lens. A Legacy in the Field.
I grew up where the land met the sea—on a West Country smallholding that ran from our stables down to the shoreline. That stretch of earth shaped everything I know and love: animals, weather, freedom, patience, respect for land and sea, and the rituals that bind generations of country people together. The rhythm of the countryside became my compass; its sports, seasons and silences my education.
Over the years, I’ve travelled across the UK and beyond—shooting days in Spain, Scotland, Hungary, France, and Argentina. Wherever I’ve gone, I’ve found that true country people share something in common: a profound love for the land, a quiet pride in their traditions, and a deep belief in conservation through stewardship. My photography aims to honour that.
What began as a personal passion has evolved into something more enduring—a record of sporting life not just as it looks, but as it feels. The elegance of a poised gunline at dawn. The drama of a high curling bird. The camaraderie around the fire after the last drive. The bond between a child and their first gun dog. Or the quiet dignity of a gentleman on what turns out to be his last shoot, surrounded by old friends and fine memories.
In the 2022/23 season alone, I photographed 121 days in the field. Each was different, but every one meaningful. Some marked beginnings—sons and daughters taking their place in the line for the first time. Others were endings—days recorded for families to treasure long after loved ones were gone. That is the heart of this work: legacy, emotion, history.
Field sports are rich with visual poetry—but they deserve more than hasty mobile phone snapshots lost in a digital haze. They deserve to be seen, curated, printed, and passed on.
That’s what I do: I create tangible memories for people who understand that this life we lead—this countryside we care for—is worth preserving in every sense of the word.
