HELLO & WELCOME

             Message from the Chairman

APRIL is South Africa month, a cause for reflection on what the country accomplished in
April 30 years ago. The 1994 elections marked a massive achievement to peacefully move

from the National Party rule to the ANC and to everything that change stood for.

Many wish Mandela had stood two terms, yet in the same breath, totally respect

and understand that he needed time for ‘himself’.

Many 30-year celebrations are occurring around the globe, celebrating the transition
the country achieved over the decades ago. See the article on page 12 by Angus
Begg, which gives insights into the journey the country has taken.

The Chamber is working with the High Commission and Action for South Africa
(ACTSA) to create an interesting programme of events.

We are going to share in a webinar what the year will deliver and talk to the key

            ambassadors of this programme.

This programme will include a prayer service for South Africa in Westminster Abbey
on 16th July. Please email me sconstancon@sachamber.co.uk if you would like to

be on the list of considered invitees.

The next day, 17th July, we will kick off the third event of the ‘SA in the City’ series as

part of the 30th year anniversary. This will involve the Lord Mayor and the Sheriffs
of the City of London, a luncheon, and discussions forums.

The first in the series was held this past week where the ‘SA Chamber UK’ introduced
the High Commissioner, HE Kingsley Mamabola to one of the Sheriffs of the City of

London, Bronek Masojada, who despite his Polish name is South African. We were
graced with an ‘English Tea’, insightful conversation, and productive planning to

raise awareness of South Africa in the City. To conclude we were treated to a tour
of the Old Bailey, the Central Criminal Court for England and Wales, topped with a

paired dome to the iconic St Paul’s Cathedral nearby.
