Hogan Lovells is a long-term strategic member of the Chamber with whom we have recently
worked together on highlighting the future risks posed by ‘state capture’ from the past and
repeated in future.
The Chamber would like to congratulate all the finalists and the winners. Making it through
the layers of judging is an amazing accomplishment and is well-deserved recognition. The
Awards ensured that we celebrated this achievement for 22 people and their businesses.
There were nine people that tipped the post to be winners; as some of the winners
were unable to be in London, they were awarded online, within the room. This online
live broadcast brought all the finalists together globally, so we all could rejoice in their
recognition.
Learning the success stories, witnessing the evolution of gender and ethnic diversity
accomplishments, as well as feeling the pride expressed by the winners was fascinating.
Their exuberance, humbleness, instant sharing of their wins with their teams and their
gratitude for the value their business and their personal brand would gain was noteworthy.
Juliet Rushent, events manager for the Chamber enthused, “The Clerk, their team, the sound
and catering crews worked together effectively, ensuring it was a relaxed and enjoyable
experience for all.”
The Prime Minister’s Trade Envoy for South Africa, Andrew Selous MP, was present. He
is a staunch supporter of the Chamber and its activities, always offering a helping
hand to negotiate government departments. His summary of the evening was,
“Congratulations on a splendid evening which was a huge success.”
We were joined by one of the two Sheriffs of the City, this year one being a South African,
Bronk Masojada, who dressed in Shrieval Black Tie.
I would like to convey my heartfelt thanks to Hogan Lovells, our headline sponsor, and to
all our other sponsors as well as to the various people who made this event a success. You
are all much appreciated as without your support and participation, this Business Awards
Dinner would not be possible.
The Chamber continues to be focussed on building the recognition of South Africa in
the City. On 19 June the pinnacle event of the year will be the Gala Dinner at Mansion
House. The event will be hosted by the current Lord Mayor, Michael Mainelli, a supporter
of the country and a close associate of the Chamber, having been involved in many of the
Chamber’s events in the past years.
