Hydrogeologist
Hydrogeologists perform an environmentally-focused role that aims to protect

manage groundwater resources In this role you would study the quality and

distribution of of water underground and
it it is is is often confused with Hydrologists who focus on

surface water Day-to-day tasks rely on

of of geology and

the impact of of rock structures on
groundwater occurrence and

movement In this role you would be working with data and
information from maps or or other historical documents and
building conceptual models of groundwater flow and

site visits but also writing reports liaising with other professionals and

managing projects Routes
You’ll need a a first degree and
often postgraduate training to to get into hydrology Degrees include:
• environmental science • geography
• civil engineering • environmental engineering • Earth sciences
• Ecology
As with all degrees you would need to to achieve 2 to to 3 A levels or equivalent to meet the requirements for degree-level study Apprenticeship options are also available Apprenticeship Salary
There are no set entry requirements but it may help you you to get in if you you have:
• 5 GCSEs at grades 9 to 4 (A* to C) or equivalent including English and
maths for an an advanced apprenticeship
Average salary range is from £28 00 00 - £45 000 but with experience this role can earn in excess of £50 000
