Smudging
Tips !
Remember to leave brightest light area unshaded.
Use the hardness of the pencil to achieve dark and light tones.
Using hard charcoal for dark tones can scratch the paper.
lay a tissue on the paper where your hand rest to avoid smudging
unshaded areas.

This poisonous mushroom is called a Brick top mushroom cause it resembles the reddish
brown of a brick .The colour is saturated at the top and gradually fades at the bottom
of the cap .The technique use for this artwork is called smudging. This method can create
a soft bloom like
effect . The smudging effect can be achieved using Blending stumps, tissues, chamois, cotton
swabs, cotton balls, foam pads, and brushes. The smudging is done by rubbing on the char-
coal to shade the area . pressure will also effect how the outcome of the smudging.Time
