P. 45
Wet on Wet 1 Draw the outline and wet the paper using a
round brush and put down dark colours for
the gills .
2
For the cap use a mixture of purple ,red,
vermillion and yellow .All of them deluted and
layer lightly. If the colour is too strong or the
paper is too wet .Use tissue paper to dab the
excess .Use the wet surface to blend things to-
gether with the brush .Be loose when colour-
ing and let the colour spread .Add a darker
colour on places with shadows .
This purplish red mushroom is Gymnopus fusipes (formerly often called Collybia fu-
sipes) or in english spindleshank is a parasitic species of gilled mushroom which is quite
common in Europe and often grows in large clumps. Wet on wet is a wet brush and a
wet surfacepaper.
This technique is quite tricky to do as we can not predict the way the watercolour
moves and the saturation of it . You have to work quick before the surface dries to
create a seamless blend .Despite being a tough technique it is highly enjoyable and
leaves a very nice outcome once you get the hang of it .Time taken 2 hours.
