In 1984 attempting to find out more about the Black hairdressing market I
contacted Black Beauty and hair magazine. I told them I had just done a
photo shoot of a sew in weave and would they be interested in publishing
the pictures. I was very lucky they not only published the step-by-step
pictures they also gave me the front cover. Fig 1

Within a month I had more Black clients than Caucasian, this was very
helpful in gathering information about black hair that I could not have
acquired elsewhere. By adding this information to what it was I was
trying to invent gave me a working brief as follows:
1. A method of attaching a whole head of Oriental hair to a head of
Black hair.
2. Attachment within one hour as opposed to 17 hours.
3. To protect and allow the clients natural hair to grow while wearing
the weave.
4. To last longer than six weeks.
5. To be easily retightened every 8 weeks.
6. To be able to Blow dry straight, curl or change the style.
