Pigments are contained in two different types of Melanin 1. Eumelanin and 2. Phaeomelanin.

1. Eumelanin contains human pigments from Green to Purple, which reflect only those
corresponding rays from the Electromagnetic Spectrum White light (Daylight)

2. Phaeomelanin contains human pigments Red through to yellow, which reflect only those
corresponding rays from the Electromagnetic Spectrum White light (Daylight)

To change the natural hair colour.

To bleach the clients natural colour to a blonde you have to remove the clients natural pigments.

Bleaching removes natural pigments until you reach your desired colour The green through to purple

are easily removed in the first few minutes. This can be witnessed visually as you watch dark brown
hair change to red. The red through to yellow pigments take longer to remove before finally all pig-
ments are removed and the hair reflects white.

To change the clients natural colour you have to remove the clients natural pigments and replace
them with artificial pigments. (Your chosen tube of hair dye ).

This is where a little chemistry is involved. Before your chosen hair dye will become active you have
to mix it with Hydrogen Peroxide. There are varying levels of Hydrogen Peroxide measuring from

10 volume to 100 volume in strength. However, when mixing and activating hair dyes mainly
20 volume and 30 volume are used. The European equivelent for 20 volume is 6% and for
30 volume = 9%.
