This degree show work is about the use of imagery to deceive the public into believing a government or a
media point of view. The work shows that with todays digital photographic manipulation software it is
possible to take photographs and create stories that never happened. The first of my five tableau’s is an
image of a demonstration in Paris against Putin’s invasion of the Ukraine. This particular demonstration
never happened it was created on my computer in the safety of my own home.
The background photograph was shot on 35 mm film in the portrait format. The negatives were then
scanned at 4950 dpi to convert to digital files. The digital files were then converted to landscape format
and pixels were added to avoid distortion of the image. The mode was then changed from grayscale to
RGB this allows me to add colour to parts of the black and white image, this mode also makes it possible
to montage colour images into the black and white image.
