DOMAINE DE SOUVILLY HOUSE RULES
1. FIREARMS / AMMUNITION
Only double barrelled or bolt action / magazine rifles may be used.
Minimum calibre .270" cal.
No solid or monolythic bullets permitted. * See note re 308
2. Between drives firearms MUST ALWAYS be unloaded and carried in a
sleeve. Please bring a suitable sleeve / gun slip.
3. NO female boar with babies or small boar under 30kg in weight should
be shot. Note: appoximately the size of a labrador.
4. The Estate will advise each day if red deer, roe deer, hares and foxes
may be shot on any of the drives. Usually, all roe and red deer males
with fewer than six points (three on each side) are permitted.
5. The red marks on the tree trunks are now largely redundant, your
permitted shooting angle to the left and right is identified with your
markers. Your own markers are key to this safety aspect.
6. Shooting forward into the drive is NOT permitted EVER. Guns failing
to obey this crucial safety requirement may be asked to leave the
estate immediately.
7. The signal for the beginning of the drive is “one long horn blast”
and for the end of the drive “three horn blasts” Note: there are
often lots of horn sounds throughout the drive as the beaters align
themselves in the thickets, and the head keeper controls the pace.
8. To prevent ricochets, avoid shooting near any rocks or stony
ground. Particularily the hard tracks and estate roads.
