BOWLINE

The bowline (say boh-linn) is a practical everyday knot that is used

to form a fixed loop at the end of a line or to attach a line to an

object, for example when hoisting or dragging an object. It is a

quick and easy knot to tie and untie. For added security the knot

can be finished with a simple overhand stopper knot.

1 First estimate the size of the loop you require, and then at the point you

want to position the knot, form a small loop in the main line.

                    POSSIBLE USES?

                    • A fixed loop to hold and pull or drag an object.
                    • A fixed loop to place over or around an object.

2 Bring the line end up through the small loop. Keep the knot loose at this

                stage.
