HIGHWAYMAN’S HITCH

Allegedly named from its use by highwaymen, bandits and

cowboys to give them quick release of their horses’ reins and so

ensure a fast getaway. The main part of the rope can be put under

substantial tension, but one sharp pull on the rope end and the knot

                is released.

1 Make an open loop behind the object that you want to tie the knot

around. Also make sure that you have enough line to complete the knot.
