“Our customers do not perceive themselves as being in a commercial relationship with the company. They see themselves as being fellow-travellers”
Book Review
So what is this book review doing in a homeopathic journal? What has it got to do with homeopathy? And why is the reviewer wasting his time reading a book on business and making money? I hope, by the end of this piece, those questions will have been answered, and the place of this work on your bookshelves will have been justified.
Jonathan will be well known to many of you reading this. He is the co-founder of Honey’s (previously Darlings) Pet Food, and has been a tireless and generous supporter of the BAHVS for many years, having been a welcome attendee at many conferences also. His book offers an insight
as to how he has managed to achieve success against the odds in a
difficult and cut-
throat business
without
stooping to the
base levels of most
of his competitors, maintaining core values and ideas while achieving remarkable success.
There is much we can learn from this
in our own battle to survive against the repressive and bullying forces that are trying todestroyhomeopathyfordubiousreasons, and much we can apply on an individual personal level
too, as we are all running the “business” of our own lives, and struggling with the maintenance of our beliefs and convictions of right and wrong, often against some pretty powerful influences.
“Our customers do not perceive themselves as being in a commercial relationship with the company.
They see themselves as being fellow-travellers”
In addition to this, I am convinced, over many years of practice, that the commonest “obstacle to cure” that we come up against in our patients is diet. I would even go so far as to say that, for very many of my patients, had I had only one choice as to what I could change in trying to
positively influence their state of health, it would be diet, as homeopathy can only work efficiently on a body that has been given the appropriate fuel on which to optimally function. No matter how good the mechanic, a car with a petrol engine will not be reparable if the driver insists on filling it up with diesel! Anyway, this book is about running an ethical business, not about how to feed your animals, so I will not
elaborate further on this.
