Nat Mur children are described as being well dressed, polite and obedient, sensitive and emotionally reserved. They will not be forthcoming. They are poor doers, thin necked and clumsy. The lack of eye contact is also typical of Nat Mur.
There were strong mineral characteristics to this case also with his obsession with routine and order (unless this is has been enforced on him by his ‘Mum’), and dislike of change.
Natrums are in row 3 of the periodic table, which relate to identity and individuality according to Sankaran. Column one is dependent like a child. They feel they have no separate identity and cannot find their own nourishment and care. Therefore Boris’s tendency to rely on his owner and to copy their emotional state fitted – his identity is dictated by his owner’s identity and the relationship with the owner, a salt trait.
The first consultation was April 9th and I saw him again on April 23rd. The paws were worse, with swelling of the front feet, and the granulomatous tissue more proud and discharging sticky gluey material especially his right foot. He is passing stools a little easier however and his appetite is 60-70% improved. He is slightly brighter in himself. I felt we were getting good results here with improvement in appetite and demeanour and expected that improvement in the feet may well follow at a slower pace. I was not sure however whether the Natrum salt chosen was correct and looked into this further.
for a cat. His feet continued to swell initially and but the discharge gradually lessened. He used the litter tray better and stools did soften for a time but then went back to being hard.
Remedy: Nat sulph LM03 once per day.
June 11th: His right paw is a lot better with only scanty discharge – some pad tissue is growing in from the edge and the granulation is less proud, however he limps more on this paw and licks this one more also. The lesions on both left and right feet have moved to the periphery of the metacarpal pad (see photo below). If the owner goes out he will urinate next to the tray again. Constipation has not improved this time – sometimes have to manually remove the stool when it is half way out. Not sulking but he would like the owners to be with him all the time and has become more depressed again.
Remedy: Single dose of Nat Mur 1M again as required to see if constipation improves.
June 11th: right front foot – lesion has moved from the centre of pad to side and has a hard crust. Left foot also showing lesion moving to periphery but less dramatic than the right.
Aug 6th: Hasn’t needed any further remedy: After the last dose he was a lot happier again and the right paw completely healed after moving to the periphery leaving a tiny crust at the margin. The lesion on the left paw has also moved to the periphery. He started going back into the living room and looking out which he hadn’t done in a while but this has stopped again. He still occasionally has problems with the constipation especially recently. Stool partially comes out and will sometimes recede.
Remedy: single dose Nat mur 10M.
Aug 6th: Right front paw – no ulceration remaining now = just small dry crust.
Sept 5th: After the last dose his demeanour improved again. Still wanted approval and liked to be watched on the litter tray. Straining to pass stools continued and from yesterday had bad constipation with sickness and lethargy. He was not wanting to eat. His bottom is very swollen. Boris’s ‘Mum and Dad’ have sometimes had to manually remove the stool in the build up to this. Back to being very reserved. An enema was given due to his distress. Started on oral aloe vera juice.
Remedy: Single dose of Nat mur 10M, plus silica 30c twice daily for 3-5 days if Nat Mur not helping.
Over the next 3 months my colleagues and I continued to battle largely with the constipation, which became intractable. Boris needed enemas on multiple occasions under general anaesthetic and he seemed to give up trying to go himself after repeated failed attempts. The right paw became puffy on the dorsal aspect of the metacarpals and also on the plantar aspect and lameness also worsened as a result.
It transpired that ‘Mum’ and ’Dad’ were having marital problems and a separation was imminent. Therefore after trying the usual constipation remedies Silica, Alumina, Opium and repeating the Nat Mur daily at a 30c potency, we explored remedies applicable to ailments from separation of the family unit and grief, notably the Magnesium salts and Ignatia.
Jan Scholten describes Mag Mur as the first remedy to think of for children of divorced parents, where the child has lost its sense of security.
Scholten also has the idea that the anion part of the salt can be related to issues with certain family members. Muriaticum with the mother, carbonicum with the father and phosphoricum with the brother. So when Mag Mur failed to provide any relief Boris was started on Mag Carb. He was described as always favouring the attention of the
The following rubrics where found
Remedy: I Changed to Nat sulph LM01 once per day Over the next few months Boris continued to feel better in himself and return to old behaviours. On the 21st of May his PCV was now 34% (24-45). He was enjoying more ‘collar off’ time and now resented having it put back on, a much more healthy attitude
