cases of demodicosis which responded to Carcinosin and Psorinum respectively. This was an intriguing presentation that covered a large area and certainly left me wanting to know more.
Next our Latvian Nat rep and vice President Ilze Pētersone talked to us about feline leprosy, which is caused by mycobacterium leprae. She related the case history of Zeltziņš, who suffered from ulcerated and discharging nodules on the limbs. Based on his fatigue and obedient, fastidious nature, Carcinosin 30c effected a complete cure.
After lunch Dörte Bremen’s presentation was titled ‘The Bowel nosodes! - More than a rumor?’ She provided a comprehensive description of all the remedies in the group. One of the cases she described involved a dog with
a fistula which developed after an injury, despite numerous antibiotics and surgery. Silica had some effect but the fistula continued to recur, despite an increase in potency from 30 to 200c. Based on the symptoms of ‘skin cracks which heal and break open’, Dysentry co. effected complete healing. This was particularly interesting as the prescription was based on matching the symptoms, rather than the associated remedies (which would have suggested Gaertner).
There followed a question and answer session where several interesting aspects of the previous sessions were discussed.
Helene Widmann, from Austria, continued with ‘Therapeutic obstacles in the Exotic outpatient clinic - Bowel nosodes as a key to cure’.
Emily MacAteer, Carolina Gomez, Beatrice Milleder, Ilze Petersone, Banu Kantarcioglu
As usual, Helene presented three fascinating cases, one of which was ‘Flocki’, a rabbit who suffered from symptoms which included upper respiratory problems, ataxia due to Encephalitozoon, and soft stool with abdominal discomfort and variable appetite. He also had dental problems but treatment failed to improve his symptoms. Remedies within a holistic regime included Nux vomica, Sulphur, Chamomilla and Veratrum album. Based on the symptoms (including the neurological issues) Helene then chose Sycotic Co 200c which produced a remarkable improvement in Flocki’s health to the extent that he only returned to the clinic for attention to his teeth for the next 18 months, after which he died peacefully. Once again the bowel nosode was selected on the premise of the remedy picture, and the use of 200c shows that potencies beyond 30c can be safe and effective.
Next to the podium was Deniz Barut from Turkey whose presentation gave us a little break from bowel nosodes: The Effects of Homeopathic Remedies Opium and Phosphorus in the awakening process from Metomidene- Katamine Anaesthesia’ in Cats’.
She described a small trial conducted on cats undergoing routine surgery for neutering, each of which was given one of the above remedies depending on its nature, (unless in
