The typical type of sarcoids which respond to Beryllium are the nodular or ulcerated fibroblastic type either single masses or in a clump of just two or three close together.
The nature of Beryllium Dog
In many ways the Beryllium dog mirrors the equine remedy picture and similarly they are mostly young animals, around 1-2 years old. There is a lack of confidence, indecision, uncertainty and some anxiety about what might happen. In the consulting room they sit by their owners quietly looking around; this is a safe space as its close to “mother”. Smaller dogs will jump onto their owner’s lap for cuddles. There is no aggression as their actions are passive. They also may come and sit by you as well, as this provides security and casually ask for pat or a stroke. Here there is some similarity with the Lac caninum dog which also lacks confidence but there is a marked need for reassurance which manifests as jumping up at you repeatedly with the underlying message of “I’m good, I’m good, I’m really good, aren’t I?”. The Lycopodium dog also lacks confidence but will always sit near the owner and if approached and cornered may suddenly bite.
Beryllium dogs perform well once they know what to do; they are slow to learn and are apt to get lost on walks due to a poor sense of orientation. Their general nature is sweet and gentle. I have prescribed this remedy for behavioural issues relating to timidity and confidence and occasionally for histiocytomas. It may be potentially useful in emphysema but as get I have not had a case to trial it on.
