The British Association of Homeopathic Veterinary Surgeons (BAHVS) was formed in 1981, to advance the understanding, knowledge and practice of homeopathy. It aims to stimulate professional awareness of homeopathy and to encourage and to provide for the training of
veterinary surgeons in the practice of homeopathy.
It is an open forum for differing approaches to the subject of veterinary homeopathy and it’s application, allowing for constructive interchanges of ideas.

Ilse Pedler
President, BAHVS
On a walk in the Langdale Pikes the other day, I was shocked to see that Stickle Gill the main water course down the side of Harrison Stickle had practically dried up in places. It had been converted from a beautiful flowing force with waterfalls, pools and surrounding vegetation to a rocky scar on the side of the mountain. It’s a standing joke that it always rains in the English Lake District and many people welcomed the drier weather but it’s been going on for weeks now while other parts of Europe have suffered excessive rainfall and floods. What it brought home to me was that climate change was here all around me in this beautiful part of England and would only get worse. It got me thinking about looking at the bigger picture and it’s only when something like this hits you individually, you make the real connection.
What’s this got to do with homeopathy?
Well, I guess it got me thinking about holism and isn’t that what we strive to do all the time as homeopaths, look at something in its entirety? We should understand more than anyone that if there is something wrong with a part of a living system, it ultimately affects the whole of it. I think homeopathy and the message homeopaths promote is needed now more than ever in our critically damaged planet. Who were the first people to raise concerns about overvaccination in our pets, who routinely advises against unnecessary flea and worm treatments, who promotes using fewer antibiotics? Us homeopaths, every time. I believe we truly are ahead of our time and our message and approach is needed now more than ever.
