Acutes
1.) Male dog, Api, Great Dane, 5 years old Date of case taking: 13/07/2018
Problem: When running around the house chasing mice his right front leg got caught in between some wooden logs stocked in front of the house. With force he managed to pull the leg out and he cried out afterwards.
He didn’t use the leg immediately after the accident and the leg quickly became swollen. There were no lacerations; he didn’t like having the leg examined, it was painful to touch, he wanted to hide. The owner decided to wait at least one day before going to veterinary clinic and she asked me what to do.
Remedy: I decided to give him Arnica montana C30, 3 times a day.
Follow up: Next day he was walking normally, no limping and swelling was almost gone. Continued with Arn. once a day, until all symptoms disappeared. He got the remedy 3 more times, before recovering completely.
2.) Female dog, Dora, English Pointer, 5 months old Date of case taking: 28/07/2018
Problem: Few days after Dora came to her new home, to which she was still very untrusting, she started to act weird at night, as the owners said. She started to pee in the flat every few minutes, crying at the front door and peeing all the time outside too, when they took her out. Urine was normal colour, but only few drops were passed every time. Her appetite and thirst were normal; her body temperature
wasn’t changed. The only other thing besides the peeing that had changed was her seeking more attention. Before she didn’t want to be petted too much; she was still more on the safe distance, but after problems with urination started she became very cuddly. She climbed on the owners lap on her own.
Remedy: I prescribed Pullsatila C30, 3 times a day.
Follow up: The next day they told me she peed just 2 times in the apartment during the night, and also when they took her out, frequency decreased a lot. Second day everything was back to normal. After that she adapted very quickly to the new home and was acting like a
normal puppy.
3.) Female dog, Bara, Greyster (European sled dog), 7 years old Date of case taking: 19/06/2019
Problem: When the owner came home, Bara had an enormous swelling on the left side of her face. She had been home alone for 3 hours. The owner panicked and rushed her to the nearest veterinary clinic. Her temperature was 38,0 deg C, she was normally active, wanted to go outside, the swelling was warm. At the clinic they said that swelling is there because of tooth root abscess. They prescribed antibiotics and recheck in a week. The owner didn’t like that and she contacted me when they arrived home.
This is the picture she sent me . Because of such an acute appearance of the swelling and normal body temperature, normal activity of the dog and warmth of the swollen part, I was sure it was bee sting oedema.
Remedy: I decided to give her Apis mellifica C30 for three to four times that day, wait with
antibiotics and then see the next day what happens.
Follow up: The next day the owner sent me this picture. We stopped the remedy and she was back to her normal self. She didn’t take the antibiotics she got and we didn’t go back to the clinic and never had any teeth problem since that time.
