P. 19

She would be more confident if my husband would have been here. She is very clean. You can take her anywhere, she will be good but she does not like big groups, she will run away and sit by the car. She prefers to be at home, she does not like going to people’s houses.
She likes sitting in the sunshine; she is sensible. She is always panting; it is really bothering. It is worse, when it is warm. Lying on the cold floor helps. She is less grumpy since the Metacam.
She will be pawing at us for some attention sometimes. My husband picks her up and she will lie on her back on him. She ran away from the groomers one day. Flight is her reaction, unless he is in her bed with a chew.
She got used to other dogs coming to the house, she does not play with them, she watches them. Our other dog loves her, he thinks Tilly is his mum and he will go next to her, when there is a problem. Tilly does not respond and is just there. If we play with the ball with the other dog (young dog) she will join in, take the ball and go to her bed with it. She decides. She likes to have a male dog in the house.
If somebody tries to stroke her, she just ignores them, she is not bothered, she just goes on, she likes us to stroke her, she is lovely; all our friends say she is not in your face. We wanted a quite dog and she always sits in her bed or under my husband’s legs. I wanted a dog for me and she is always with my husband.
She likes to lie on something that is familiar. She prefers not to lie on the floor. We have a sheepskin for her to lie on. In a hotel she will lie on the bed we bring for her. She is bombproof at shows but she does not like the thunder. She became fearful from the vets when she had her second vaccination. We used to have to do the vaccines in the car. She travels well. (She is always anxious trembling in the surgery). She was dreadful for pulling on the lead; it was
dreadful. She is noisy sleeping: snuffling and sniffling.’’
‘’What does she think of herself?’’ ‘’ Don’t know. We take water on the walks. She drinks from the bottle. A soon as she has done, what she has to do, she wants to go back home.
She is the mistress of her own destination; she is stubborn. As she has been getting older, she has started wandering off; as a young dog we did not need a lead. She goes past a point and she gest headstrong and does not come back.’’
I repertorise: (complete repertory)
The phrase: ‘she is the mistress of her own destination’ seemed to call for the remedy salmon in this repertorisation. The remedy also gave a sense of the ‘’she is an old soul’ remark of the owner. It was worth trying: Oncorhynchus tschawythscha (Salmon) 30C, 3 doses.
One month later
The exercise tolerance is much better again but the panting is still an issue although it is better.
‘’I think she is deaf; she wandered off, because she could not hear us shouting. She is happier on the lead. You can talk her out of the panting now. She never pants on a walk. She is normally worried about the firework. She was fine this time (Note: she can hear, she is not completely deaf).
The energy is brilliant: she has been jumping around, like she has not done for years. The panting does not bother her but it is very noisy. It is worse, when she is close to the fire. She is not licking her front legs as much as she used to.
The coughing is much less. She is much more affectionate. She wants the affection now. She used to be aloof, now she is part of the family. We tried so hard to make her part of the family; she now finally is part of the family. She has become young again. It would be good if the panting improves.’’
I wonder whether there is a larynx paresis going on...

Tilly is a 13-year-old spaniel. She had become quite arthritic, especially the sacroiliac joint was painful. This had been coming up slowly. The owner had not noticed and thought she was just getting old.
In effect, she had become quite disinterested in most things. When she was given a few days of meloxicam, she improved quite a bit, which convinced the owner, it was still worth making an effort to make her better. She pants and coughs quite a bit, which had improved with the meloxicam but is still very much present and bothering the owner.
‘’She is a creature of habit. She likes being with us in the evening and be on my husband’s lap. We have lost her before on a walk. If we go beyond a point, she gets confused, when she is not on the lead and cannot find her way. She prefers to be on the lead. She used to always come back but now she got confused and disappeared into the woods and got lost.
She had three years of gun dog training. She was not keen. She used to come back from a day out shooting with her eyes bleeding and thorns in her skin everywhere. She was very obedient after the training. It was easy but she had a lot of classes.
She gets nervous from fireworks. She is not crazy, she is calm, like and old soul, like she has been here before.’’
‘’An old soul?’’ ‘’ She is sensible, she does not damage, she has a toy, she has had since she was a pup, she likes it in her bed, she has it in her mouth, when we come home. She does not mind, when the other dog takes it off her.
She was spayed due to repeated phantom pregnancies: she gathered toys and got vicious. She has a tiny bit of aggression in her: she will chew for a long time on something we give her and if anybody comes near her, she growls, even at us; she has snapped at my husband. When I tell her ‘dead’, she drops it (dog training). Spaying did not change her. She has had a fight with another dog that came in the house, there was a lot of noise, she can flip.
