COVID-19 Statement for members
We are in the middle of a global pandemic of coronavirus disease (COVID-19) which is having far reaching effects on the human population but is also impacting on our ability to provide our normal veterinary services. The situation is also a rapidly changing one with new advice being given on an almost daily basis.
The latest guidance from the UK Government advises that routine veterinary work should be suspended for the time being and practices should run an emergency service only. The decisions for us as vets will be to judge what is an emergency and what cases should be treated so they don’t become emergencies in the future. Our clients will also be anxious and we will undoubtably be spending more time reassuring them.
I’m sure most practices will have drawn up their own emergency plans by now but below are some guidelines from the BVA:-
- Owners within a house with a confirmed infection or with symptoms consistent with
COVID-19 should limit contact with their pets, and phone their vet in an emergency.
- Owners should be reminded not to bring their pets to the surgery if they are self-isolating
because of confirmed COVID-19 or because they have the relevant symptoms.
