I would like to share some thoughts that tend to linger in the back of my mind. Thoughts relate to how homeopathy will stand the best chance of becoming mainstream. This is not going to be a pep talk but a stirring.
My starting point is: why do I practice homeopathy? Well, the reason being is that it gives me many more options to treat the patients I see. That was initially the reason and it still is. A second argument that has come along, making
the study of homeopathy interesting, is that the homeopathic philosophy helps with a better under- standing of health and disease. It helps me in making sense about, why patients sometimes do get better or sometimes not and reduces stress in medicine. I try to use the homeopathic holistic view to also help my clients to understand what they can expect from treatments in general.
My understanding is based on a coming together of homeopathic thinking and modern medical knowledge. For this to work, it is important not to see the one or the
other as being more superior but offering different angles of approaching the patient for each individual case: the always present individuality principle, which makes medicine such a challenge. This individuality is made up of the combination of illness in the modern nosological sense, the individuality of the patients, the individuality of the patient’s guardian and material restrictions that are part of the situation.
When we practice medicine, we use the tools available, which we adapt to this individual situation. It may well
